Broward *DEMOCRATS* Busted by FBI

As usual, the local papers are conveniently omitting the fact that corrupt Broward politicians busted by the FBI this week were Democrats:

1. COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD Dist 2. - Beverly Gallagher (Chair) - Democrat!
2. COUNTY COMMISSION Dist 9 - Josephus Eggelletion, Jr. - Democrat!
3. Fitzroy D. Salesman Miramar City Commissioner 2001-2008 -Democrat!

Funny how the local left wing blogs are silent on the facts that:

a) All three busted were members of Obama's party, and
b) The media is SILENT on identifying party affiliations.

  1. And yet, no one missed the part about how they were arrested, and why.

If they'd all been plotting together at Democratic HQ, you'd have something. But these are three people who broke the law, each one on their own.

And don't worry, I'm sure that the next group will have some Republicans, just to keep you happy.

I agree that both parties have corrupt members. I just thought the Democrats were promising to Change(TM) all that. I guess not.

I am not aware of a single instance where the media has been silent on identifying party affiliation when a Republican does wrong. But silence on party affiliation when Democrats are involved seems to be widespread, and it happened in this case.

Either don't report affiliation at all, or be consistent.

  3. Obama is not all Democrats. As for this bs line about identifying political affiliation, how about this...

There is no silence on political affiliation. There are unsubstantiated notions about a liberal media...which have been thoroughly debunked.

I regularly follow the blog: www.newsbusters.org, and invariably there are news reports that omit the "D" when a dem gets busted. Not all news outlets, but some. I don't have the time to go hunting for links, but if you search that blog you'll find them. Besides, I already linked to both the Herald and Slantinel that omitted the "D", proving my point. Sorry I don't have a link, but I have a good memory and I remember it being an issue with reporting on "Freezer Cash" William Jefferson. It was even an issue with some outlets and Blagoyavich.

Now, I'm not saying articles MUST always use "D" or "R", but they should be consistent. I've never heard liberals complain about "R" being omitted when a republican gets caught up in a scandal, and I haven't noticed it myself. If you've seen it happen, please point it out.

Is it a serious problem? I don't know. But I suspect it is a sign that either the reporters, the editors, or the paper themselves are biased. Biased to the point of distorting the truth? Who knows.

But look, the fact is, when three dems get busted in Broward, if the "D" is reported then, rationally or not, a lot of voters are going to wonder what kind of politicians make up the party here in Broward, and might be more discriminating. In politics, birds of a feather flock together. I'm not alleging a conspiracy between the three, but I would suggest that Broward has a culture of corruption problem.

There is a much stronger incentive for the parties to police themselves if the media would identify party affiliation whenever this happens.

  5. I think it is fair to say that local politics differs significantly than national politics. I'd contend that affiliations of local politicians, while important, do not necessarily predict voting patterns in the way that they would in, say the US House of Representatives.

Its for this reason, I think, that no one really remembers what political affiliation Warren Newell had at the time of his arrest. In terms of voting patterns, he was across the board. Same as with Mary McCarty, Tom Masilotti, and Jim Exline.

Now, I think the BPB New Times blog, the Pulp, is both Democratic-leaning and viciously anti-Democratic-Party-in-Broward (read anything about the "Condo Mafia" and you'll see what I mean).

As far as this being one-sided, I'll tell you that right-wing media outlets like Fox have a horrible tendency to misidentify candidates when it is convenient:

  6. I'm sure fox plays games too.
I think we agree the media should correctly report party affiliation.
As for your local/national distinction, I can't agree. Obama and Rahm came from the Chicago machine. You expect me to believe they left their old habits behind in the Windy city?
